Youngsters take a novel approach to fancy dress
Schools all over Northumberland were full of Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland and Where's Wally as children celebrated World Book Day.
The annual event, which this year marked its 20th anniversary, gives youngsters the chance to dress up as their favourite characters in a bid to encourage them to discover the joy of books and reading.
And they certainly got into the spirit of the day, with children dressed in an array of costumes, from witches to wizards, Beatrix Potter to Peter Rabbit, and Snow White to Fantastic Mr Fox.
The classics weren’t ignored either, with Hamlet and Fagin from Oliver Twist putting in an appearance.
