Northumberland County Council’s investment in the cycle path from Stobhill to Telford Bridge will have been a surprising announcement to many people.
I assume that research has been done to link the investment to potential reductions in car journeys down Stobhill Bank, which has been a congested area for many years.
I assume work has also been done to anticipate what else would be needed if a noticeable percentage of people gave up their car for the bicycle. For example, the provision of safe places to park may be expensive if someone cycles into Morpeth to do some shopping.
There is also the issue if someone wanted to cycle from Stobhill to visit one of the new shops to come into Loansdean.
An improved cycle path through the arboretum would be needed and pavement improvements past the Sun Inn and through The Kylins.
When the potential needs for cyclists are addressed will the congestion difficulties at pinch-points like Mafeking Park roundabout be eased, or will the traffic slow down further?
Again, I assume the county council has done its research.
