FAMILY: Search proved to be fruitful

I contacted you in 2012 regarding a Mary Gowens/Gowans who wed William Benjamin Woodman in 1855 and you were kind enough to publish a request for information about them.

A couple of useful contacts arose from this, but not the information I was seeking.

I persevered and, almost by chance, found Mary’s death announced in the August 18, 1860, edition of the Morpeth Herald.

I now know that she was indeed my great-grandfather’s youngest sister and died in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on August 5, 1860, aged 24.

The names of both her mother and father are quoted in the death record so there is no doubt. I now know where both William and Mary are buried.

Now I am trying through an American contact to find when and where William Benjamin remarried and what became of his son, William Woodman junior.
