I have noticed in a recent planning application that Bellway Homes is seeking to significantly reduce the number of affordable homes in its Loansdean development.
The proposals were sold to residents and the council as including 100 affordable houses out of a total of 200. Whilst I supported residents in their fight against this development when I was a town councillor, the only crumb of comfort with the scheme going ahead was that people who cannot currently afford to live in Morpeth would at least have a chance of an affordable home in the future.
Now it seems Bellway is trying to wriggle out of its commitment, depriving Morpeth of much-needed affordable housing.
I hope that the council gives serious thought to the implications of what is now being proposed.
