I am glad to hear that Coun Joan Tebbutt agrees with me that Bellway’s attempt to reduce its affordable home provision is disappointing.
Its application to do so was received by the council on November 2, (15/03643/DISCON) and my letter to the Herald was dated November 11 so quite why she considers this a late response to events is not clear.
Although her letter was negative she did succeed in indirectly drawing attention to two positive policies introduced by Prime Minister David Cameron that are helping people to get on to the housing ladder — Right to Buy and Help to Buy.
Taylor Wimpey is advertising Help to Buy at its Northgate Hospital site, highlighting the option for first time buyers to purchase a home with just a five per cent deposit.
I trust that she is supportive of these two schemes, regardless of the fact that it took a Conservative Prime Minister to introduce them.
Perhaps Coun Tebbutt should pay more attention to promoting schemes such as this to help the people of Morpeth instead of indulging in political point scoring.
