I was rather surprised to see your recent article in which the Labour Leader in Northumberland Grant Davey described the suggestion that his administration offered to lend £75million to controversial developer Lugano as a ‘Tory smear’.
Lugano chief executive Richard Robson admitted in the press 12 months ago that the then chief executive of the council approached Lugano to make such an offer.
I would remind Coun Davey that a smear is not a smear if it is a fact.
It is a fact that the council approached Lugano and offered it this loan.
The only question is whether or not Coun Davey was aware of this offer?
And if he wasn’t, why was his chief executive making such offers without his knowledge?
