My decision to vote against Andrew Tebbutt’s appointment to the role of Mayor in Morpeth was not politically motivated.
As an Independent councillor, I reserve my right to vote in what I believe are the best interests of those who elected me.
I respect the role of Mayor and will work without bias with whoever wears the chain.
Coun Tebbutt remarked that “It is very sad that he and two others took this position, which I believe is an insult to the role of Mayor as the nominations were discussed by all councillors in advance of the annual meeting.” (Morpeth Herald, June 2).
I see this as worthy of an apology from him.
The current process of discussion does not bear scrutiny and is hardly fit for purpose.
Perhaps Coun Tebbutt would care to issue a public retraction of his statement?
