Our jewel in the crown

We read so many horror stories about the NHS in the press, that it is easy to think that we are blighted with one of the worst health services in the world.

This is not true, and in particular here in Morpeth, we must celebrate the fact that we have a jewel in the crown of the NHS, in the Whalton Unit at the old Morpeth Cottage hospital site.

Recently my husband spent the last month of his life at the Whalton Unit.

He had his own room in a purpose-built building that is only four years old.

But what made the difference was the level and standard of the nursing care, which was outstanding.

To the Whalton Unit and all of its staff this former nurse would like to say an enormous heartfelt thank-you.
