Morpeth U14s 32

Alnwick 19

A well-deserved 32-19 win over Alnwick in the Mitford Road mud offered the perfect start to Easter tour preparations for a highly-charged Morpeth U14s side.

Morpeth were always in the driving seat against Alnwick, despite conceding an early try and conversion to the forward-dominated visitors.

Two tries from centre Josh White led the way for Morpeth as the Mitford Road youngsters again showed their skills, commitment and teamwork in the difficult, testing conditions.

The Morpeth backs were a constant threat for an Alnwick team that didn’t have much to offer except kicking for space.

Tries by Jacob Crooks and Liam Shipperlee, Lewis Nicholson and a rampant run to the line by big second-row Joe Turnbull ensured Morpeth were never in any danger of conceding the lead, despite taking their foot of the pedal in the latter stages which saw Alnwick score two late consolation tries.

Sam Eyres added to the points with one conversion Man-of-the-match went to Jacob Crooks.
