First defeat of the season for Morpeth cricketers
Morpeth 1sts suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down to a one wicket away defeat against Annfield Plain 1sts in the Northumberland & Tyneside Division 1 on Saturday.
Morpeth, with James Sander on 48, were 181-8 in their innings, but Annfield replied with 182-9 in 44 overs, with James Craig’s taking 4-16.
In Division 2, Ponteland 2nds moved up to second place in the table with an 89 home win over Warkworth 1sts. Pont were 173-6 in their 45 overs with John Lumb on 63 not out. Warkworth were then 84 all out in reply.
Blagdon Park 1sts are in third with a two wicket away win over Lintz 1sts.
Lintz were 155 all out with Paul Johnson taking 5-32. In reply, Blagdon chased it down at 158-8 in 44 overs with David Gibson top scoring on 29.
In Division 3, Stobswood 1sts are bottom of the table following their heavy 192 run home defeat at the hands of GEMs 1sts.
The visitors posted a big score of 235-8 with three bats in the 40’s. Stobswood were then bowled out for only 43 in reply.
In Division 4, Ponteland 2nds lost by 31 runs away to Swalwell 2nds. Swalwell posted 174-7 with Pont 143-4 in reply in their 40 overs.
Kirkley 1sts won by one wicket when they faced Backworth 1sts at home.
Backworth batted first and made 119 all out in 37 overs, with Graeme Fairbairn top scoring on 36, Daniel Potter taking 4-40 for the home side.
In reply, Kirkley got off to a poor start with their top seven bats only producing nine runs, but a knock of 55 from Jason Ritchie steadied the ship and they went on to make 122-9 in 36 overs.
In Division 5 North, Morpeth 2nds had an 89 run home win over Howick. Morpeth posted a modest 115 all out, but Howick were dismissed for only 29 with three wickets each for Oliver Tulip and Paul Marley.
Ulgham 1sts suffered a narrow two run defeat at home to Ashington Rugby 2nds. Chris Haywood was 117 not out as Ashington put on 221-1. Ulgham ran them close but came up just short at 219-8 with Max Stenberg on 50.
In Division 6 North, Stobswood 2nds are top of the pile after inflicting a 93-run defeat away to Blyth 2nds.
Stuart Shanks was 100 not out as Stobswood posted 195-7 in their 40 overs. Blyth were then 102 all out with Adam Shanks taking 4-44.
