Ponteland 1sts top table after four-run home victory

Morpeth 1sts suffered a 12-run away defeat against Consett 1sts in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League Division 1 on Saturday.

Consett were 117 all out in their innings with Aaron McCabe on 48, David Rutherford and Michael Craigs taking three wickets apiece. Morpeth could only manage 105 all out in reply with Jamie Sander top scoring on 21.

Ponteland 1sts remain top of Division 2 after winning their top of the table home clash against Tillside 1sts by a narrow four runs.

The home side put on 124 all out with Jonathan Appleby on 53, but in reply, Tillside came up just short at 120 all out, with just four balls remaining. The defeat means Ponteland now hold a 23 point lead at the top.

Blagdon 1sts suffered an agonising one run home defeat against Backworth 1sts in a game which went to the very last ball. Backworth, with John Duncan top scoring on 41, were 170-8 at the end of their 45 overs, David Gibson taking 3-31. Blagdon, with Gibson on 38, edged towards their target, but at the end of their 45 overs came up short by just one run at 169-9.

In Division 3, Stobswood 1sts picked up their first victory of the season with a six wicket away win over Whitley Bay 1sts. Whitley were all out for 199 with Stobswood posting 122-4.

In Division 4, Ponteland 2nds lost by seven wickets away to Tynedale 2nds. Ponteland were all out for only 65, three home bowlers claiming three wickets apiece. Tynedale then chased it down at 66-3 in 22 overs.

Kirkley 1sts lost by three wickets away to Clara Vale 1sts. Kirkley put on 127 all out with the home side reaching their target at 130-7 in 36 overs.

In Division 5 North, Morpeth 2nds lost by six wickets to league leaders Ashington Rugby 2nds. Morpeth were 87 all out with Ashington taking 36 overs to reach 88-4.

Blagdon 2nds lost by 53 runs away to Howick. Howick put on 122-9, with Blagdon all out for 69 in reply.

Ulgham 1sts lost by four wickets at home to Monkseaton 1sts. Ulgham were 134-9 with Darrell Campbell on 31. Monkseaton were 135-6 in 35 overs.

In Division 6 North, Ulgham 2nds lost by nine wickets away to Wooler. Ulgham were 61 all out with Andrew Aitchison and Angus Todd taking four wickets apiece. Wooler (64-1) chased it down in 25 overs.
