Dunston UTS 1 Morpeth Town 3 Ebac Northern League, Division One
Morpeth extended their unbeaten run with an excellent away performance on Saturday.
An evenly-contested first half finished goalless as both defences nullified the threat of their opposing forwards. Connell in the home goal denied scoring opportunities from Sean Taylor, Daniel Taggert and Michael Chilton.
Both sides came out for the second half determined to gain all three points and after the hosts hit the frame of the goal, Chilton’s looping header hit the bar.
The opening goal came on the hour. Jordan Fry burst through the middle of the home defence and was hacked down on the edge of the box. Keith Graydon stepped up and bent the free-kick over the Dunston UTS wall to give the Highway Men the lead.
Morpeth were now on top and they took advantage to go 2-0 ahead. Taggert played the ball into the path of Christopher Jewels and he stroked the ball home from the edge of the box.
Dunston pressed forward to try to keep their title aspirations alive and were awarded a fortuitous penalty after a challenge in the box.
Bulford scored from the spot to get back within one.
Undeterred, Town continued to press and Ben Sayer fired the ball into the net when put through to complete an assured victory.
Morpeth are at home to Billingham Synthonia tomorrow (Saturday) and Shildon on Wednesday. The kick-offs at Craik Park are 3pm and 7.30pm respectively.
