Morpeth Sporting Club U17s 3 Blyth Town U17s 1
MORPETH produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Blyth, who were lying third in the division before the game.
The match was evenly contested in the first half-hour. Luke Rolt did well on a couple of occasions but couldn’t find the target and Jack Travers went close with a free kick.
At the other end splendid covering by Tom Larby, who was excellent throughout, prevented Blyth from taking the lead.
Morpeth then took the lead when Craig Robertson latched on to a pass and held off a defender to shoot home from inside the penalty area.
With the final kick of the half, Blyth equalised when a free-kick went past everyone and ended up in the net.
The late goal had been tough on Morpeth but they came out in the second half and continued to play with great spirit and skill. They regained the lead when good work by Brown offered an opportunity for Jack Hunter to unleash an excellent shot that took the Blyth goalkeeper by surprise.
The goal gave Morpeth confidence and it was no surprise when Kyle Nelson battled for a ball and then rounded the goalkeeper with great skill to walk the ball in to the net.
The visitors pressed for a goal back and Dan Carr saved brilliantly to prevent them making it 3-2.
