Morpeth Sunday League round-up
The Wharton Arms recorded a 1-0 win over Ashington RAOB thanks to a goal from striker Joe Moscrop.
Taking advantage of Ashington’s loss, Amble Tavern went six points clear at the top of the league thanks to a 13-0 win over Riverside Lodge. On target for The Tavern were Nathan Buddle (six), Josh Hay (three), Calvin Flanagan (two), Ross Gair and Jayden Hindhaugh.
North End Trap also sit six points clear as they defeated Amble Blue Bell 9-2, thanks to a Kevin Bell hat-trick, an Ian Elliot brace and efforts from Jack Small, Josh Baston, Marc Nixon and Richard Hall. The Blue Bell goals were scored by Ross Straughn and Scott Humble.
Sitting behind North End in second are Morpeth Shambles and they kept up their promotion push with an 8-1 win over Alnmouth Argyle. Shambles got the win with four goals from Steven Warwick, a double from Ashley McAlpine and strikes from Stuart Melville and Stuart Marshall. The Alnmouth reply was scored by Gary Reid.
East Chevington are still in the mix as they have games in hand on both of the teams above them and they kept the pressure on with a 9-1 defeat of Amble Dock Hotel. Phil Airey and Davey Shepherd both got hat-tricks, Darren Smith scored twice and a goal from Sean Palmer rounded off the victory. Amble Dock’s consolation was scored by Calum Fenwick.
Ashington Conchie edged out The Elephant 2-1.
NFA Minor Cup
Stobswood unfortunately bowed out of the NFA Minor Cup at the quarter-final stage on penalties against Wylam FC.
The game remained level at 2-2 after extra time and Wylam progressed with a 5-4 win in the shoot-out.
