Morpeth Town 3 West Allotment Celtic 3 Northern League Division One

Morpeth were involved in a six-goal thriller, but the afternoon was tinged with disappointment as they blew a three-goal lead.

West Allotment Celtic started brightly and Karl Dryden in the home goal made two smart saves early on before Hudson’s shot from the edge of the box grazed the post.

But the Highway Men found their feet and they took the lead after 23 minutes. Marc Lancaster burst down the left wing and his cross into the six yard box was converted by Michael Chilton.

Town doubled their lead in the first minute of the second half when Sean Taylor’s in-swinging corner was glanced home by Chilton.

In control of the game, Morpeth pressed forward and they were rewarded on 55 minutes when Chilton turned provider.

He slipped the ball into the path of Taylor, whose sublime chip found the back of the net.

But the visitors did not let their heads drop and they quickly pulled a goal back. They then scored a penalty and the equaliser came at the death when former Morpeth centre forward Dormand ran onto a long ball from the back and finished well.

Morpeth Town line-up: Dryden, Hiftle, Lancaster, Grant, Grieve, Buchanan, Taylor, Keenan (Hall), Anderson, Chilton, Forster.
