There has been success at the double for one of the football teams at Morpeth’s high school this season.
On Thursday, April 23, the King Edward VI School Year 10 side were crowned champions of the Northumberland U15 Schools League.
A hat-trick from Jack Butler and goals from Will Pritchard, two, Harvey Colledge and Paul Callaghan ensured that KEVI ended up 7-2 winners against a strong Ponteland side.
A few days later, the Year 10 lads played St Thomas More from North Shields in the Northumberland Blake County Cup Final – a rather historic cup dating back to 1911.
Despite a bright start and the fact that chances were at a premium for both sides, KEVI were 1-0 down at the break. But they soon found themselves level in the second half.
After good work from Jack Butler and Thomas Alsopp, Harvey Colledge popped up with a smart back post finish.
The Morpeth team were now on top and they created some good chances, but they were unable to find a winner. The game became more tense in extra time and the score stayed at 1-1, so the match went to penalties.
It was an incredible shoot-out and KEVI eventually came out on top 11-10 to win the silverware.
