Eagles lift the crown

Ashington Eagles 7 Morpeth SC Galaxy 1

DESPITE leading the champions-elect on Astroturf, Galaxy were not able to stop their hosts recording another convincing win which confirms Ashington’s status as champions of Division Five.

As was the case in the match at Swinney’s before Christmas, Galaxy more than held their own against an attack which has been scoring for fun this season.

The entire defence played its part in keeping their hosts at bay.

Ashington’s defence has been fairly solid as well this season, so it was to the extra delight of the visitors when Whittle was sent clear and slotted the ball into the corner to give Galaxy a surprise 0-1 lead.

However, this lead was not to last long, as Ashington found the bottom corner themselves to send the two teams in at 1-1.

Soon into the second half, it was 2-1 and, from there on, the difference between the two teams was clear as Ashington registered five further goals to take the three points.

With all remaining games now very much winnable, Galaxy can take confidence from a good showing against the runaway leaders.

Morpeth SC Galaxy U11s congratulated Ashington Eagles on both winning promotion and securing the Division Five title.
