PAUL Dummett is set to give Newcastle United another lift going into the final few games of the campaign.
It had been feared that Dummett would not play again this season because of a knee injury.
But the defender is pencilled in to return to full training next week, though head coach Carver won’t take any chances with his fitness.
Carver said: “We’ve got to be careful with Paul Dummett, because he had a bad knee injury. We’ll bring him back when he’s ready.”
Carver watched Siem de Jong make his comeback in Wednesday night’s Under-21 game against Derby County at St James’s Park.
The forward – who had surgery in February after suffering a collapsed lung – has an outside chance of making the squad for Sunday’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur after playing 45 minutes of the 2-0 defeat.
“I’d like to think that he’ll be back before, or certainly for, the last four (games), possibly starting,” said Carver.
