Five-star showing moves Town up the table

Morpeth Town 5 Sunderland RCA 0 Northern League, Division One

THE Highway Men returned to winning ways at Craik Park on Saturday thanks to a Stephen Forster hat-trick and strikes from Andrew Wright and Scott Swanston.

In an entertaining encounter, both sides were committed to attack.

On ten minutes, Grant won the ball in midfield. His precise throughball split the opposition defence and the on-rushing Forster crashed the ball past Carmichael in the Sunderland RCA goal to make it 1-0.

Five minutes later Forster double the lead and his tally with the goal of the game. Receiving the ball with his back to goal, he turned his marker and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the far corner of the net.

The visitors began to show some attacking promise, but Jewels and keeper Mundy were more than a match for their efforts.

Early in the second half, Barton slammed the ball home for Sunderland RCA, but he was adjudged to be offside.

Town responded well and when Henderson drove forward, he released Wright through the middle and he rolled the ball past Carmichael to make it 3-0.

From the re-start, Morpeth immediately regained possession and the ball was played into Swanston, who coolly placed his shot into the goal.

The Highway Men were not finished and in the final minute, Forster latched onto a long ball to complete his hat-trick.
