North Shields Magpies U11 0 Morpeth SC Galaxy U11 2
GOALS from Charlton and Whittle secured the points against third-placed North Shields, who threatened surprisingly infrequently given their superior league position.
An even encounter saw Charlton give the visitors the lead early in the first half, as North Shields did little to prove that they are still very much in the hunt for the second promotion place.
In fact, the Galaxy defence was fairly comfortable in dealing with whatever their hosts were able to throw forward.
It was much the same in the second half, with the majority of the game being played in the centre of the pitch and neither team raining in the shots on their opponents’ goal.
However, the points were secured as Whittle was sent free on the right.
Spotting the goalkeeper committing himself early, Whittle went for a lob, with the ball finding the ideal route over the goalkeeper’s reach and under the crossbar.
This performance will increase the confidence levels, with a much more even encounter against Newbiggin Hall – on paper at least – likely at the weekend.
Team: Hope; Farrier, Small (c), Dunn, McCormack; Morrison, Whittle, Nellis, Lawson; Davison, Charlton. Subs: Andrews, Bickerton.
