Galaxy leave it late

Morpeth SC Galaxy 3 Prudhoe YC Yellows 1 – Junior football

GALAXY secured back-to-back comeback wins as Prudhoe were beaten for the second time this season. For much of the early stages, it was one-way traffic as the visitors barely got close to Hope in the home goal.

After large periods on the attack, Galaxy were forced on the defensive as Prudhoe managed to get forward for a sustained period.

Early in the second half, the pressure was rewarded as Prudhoe’s striker escaped the watch of Dunn and Nellis to fire in a good finish for 0-1.

With 15 minutes remaining, the equaliser came. Whittle capitalised on an opponent’s hesitation and ran on to smash an equaliser into the far corner (1-1).

With just less than 10 minutes remaining, Galaxy claimed the lead as Welbury finished well from inside the area (2-1).

Two minutes later, Whittle added his second and the team’s third to secure the points (3-1).

This win leaves the team third in the table pending other results.

The third goal also leaves the team on 49 goals for the season with a maximum of six games remaining. To reach 50 will be a magnificent achievement, given in the past, the team been happy to reach 20.
