WALLINGTON FC almost finished off their pre-season fixtures with a trophy after a narrow defeat in the Clayton Cup final.
The Greens played Northern League club Ryton and Crawcrook Albion on Friday following impressive performances in the earlier rounds against Ponteland United (5-1) and Prudhoe Town (4-0).
They went 2-1 ahead thanks to strikes from Sam Walton and Josh Gilmartin (pen) but conceded two late goals to lose 3-2.
Meanwhile, the squad has taken delivery of the 2012-13 strip sponsored by Wallington Parish Council.
Chairman of the authority, Jonathon Aynsley, said: “Started by local estate workers, Wallington FC has been in existence since 1877 and last season won Northumberland FA’s Minor Cup competed for by 77 clubs across the county.
“We are delighted to support one of the few sporting facilities in the parish.”
