Newcastle Chemfica 1 Wallington 4 Northern Alliance, Division One

A SCORCHING first 30 minutes laid the foundations for another Wallington win that saw them extend their lead at the top of Division One.

The game on Saturday was not 10 minutes old when Stevie Warwick pounced on a goalkeeping spill to prod home after good work from his strike partner John Paxton. The Greens were celebrating again soon after when Sam Walton received a Paxton lay-off and directed an arrow of a shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Another goal for the visitors arrived quickly. Nathan Williamson found space 25 yards from goal and the midfielder let fly a dipping shot that struck the underside of the bar before bouncing over the line.

Although Newcastle Chemfica pulled a goal back, Walton made it 4-1 to Wallington with a sweet strike from all of 35 yards.

On Monday, Wallington drew 3-3 with Gosforth Bohemians to inch ever closer to the league title. Their goals came from Sam Walton, Paxton and David Featherstone.

This evening, The Greens face Premier Division league leaders Heaton Stannington in the final of the League Cup. Kick-off at Woodhorn Lane, Ashington, is 7pm.
