Morpeth Town A 0 Wallington 8 Northern Alliance, Division One
WALLINGTON wrapped up the league title with a crushing victory on Monday evening.
It was the appropriate end to a terrific season for the Scot’s Gap outfit that has constantly defied location, weather and injuries to emerge as the top side in one of the region’s most competitive leagues.
The opposition on the day didn’t show much desire and were second best all over the pitch to the dominant Greens.
However, the away side were rampant and to score eight goals with the possibility of more was hugely impressive at this late stage of the season.
With his 35th strike of a phenomenal year, Jordan Nellis got the ball rolling after ten minutes with a delicate left-footed lob after being found by strike partner Dan Thompson.
It was clear that it was going to be a special day for The Greens and this was emphasised 15 minutes before the break when Kyle Reardon latched onto Ben Fenwick’s exquisite throughball to score his first goal of the season.
Within five minutes of the restart any fears of letting the lead slip were averted when Nellis lofted home his second of the night with a symmetrical chip to his first.
Thompson then got in on the act when he finished cleverly into the corner following terrific individual play down the right by Jake Walton.
Sam Walton scored the first of his first hat-trick for the Club when found by captain Alex Slack. Reardon then got his second of the game from the edge of the box before teeing up Walton from a similar distance to make it 7-0.
The youngster then completed his treble – showing terrific balance and quick feet to bamboozle three defenders before slotting home – to make the final score 8-0 to Wallington.
