Ground staff’s work pays off

Morpeth Town 2 Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 3 Ebac Northern League Division Two

THANKS to the hard work of the Morpeth Town ground staff, the Highway Men faced Ryton & Crawcrook Albion at Craik Park, writes David McMeekan.

On a very heavy playing surface, the Highway Men were caught napping in the eighth minute.Blakey collected a long through ball on the right. His fierce drive across goal was parried by Mundy in the Morpeth goal into the path of King who forced the ball home from close range.

Morpeth regained their composure and equalised on 20 minutes.

Keenan played in Grant down the left wing. His deep cross was flicked on by Scott into the path of Dines who drove home via the near post.

Controlling possession in mid ield, the Highway Men continued to press forward and were rewarded on the half hour.

Tumilty carried the ball out of defence playing it out wide to Keenan. He cut inside and drilled the ball home from 20 yards.

In control of the game Morpeth surrendered the lead seven minutes from half-time.

In a rare attack Henderson made a timely tackle inside his penalty area but home goal keeper Mundy miss kicked to present Ryton a fortuitous equlaiser.

With their only meaningful attack, Ryton took the lead on the hour when Smiths low 25 yard drive found the bottom left hand corner of the net.

In the remaining half an hour, Morpeth pressed forward. Hall‘s header cannoned back off the cross bar and Mordey in the Ryton goal did well to deny Grant Anderson and Fry as the equaliser just would not come.

Morpeth Town: Mundy, Henderson, Tumilty (Hiftle), Grant, Hall, Dunn, Dines (Anderson), Fry, Scott (Wright,) Chilton, Keenan.

Rusty’s Taxis man-of-the-match: Andrew Keenan.
