Ellington Juniors FC U11s secured the league challenge trophy following a tight game against Monkseaton Blacks U11s, which exploded into action in the final ten minutes.

Monkseaton started the strongest and Ellington had defenders Paul Dunn and Oliver Hope to thank for thwarting the lively opposition forwards.

Ellington almost took the lead on half time when a Blake throughball gave Evan Dunn a chance. He forced a great save from the Monkseaton keeper.

The second half saw a more ambitious and attacking Ellington, prompted by Brown and Farrell in the midfield.

With the game heading for extra time, both teams were handed the chance to win the match. A Monkseaton forward found himself clear with only Tewart to beat, but the keeper pulled off a great double save to keep his side in the game.

Minutes later with seconds on the clock, Farrell played a throughball to Reid, who was fouled as he broke clear. The resulting free kick from all of 26 yards was duly smashed home by top scorer Evan Dunn to make it 1-0 and as his team mates engulfed him the referee blew for full time.

The goalscorer was selected as man-of-the-match.
