THESE two teams have always produced good entertainment when they have met and this match was no exception.

This was a closely-fought encounter, with Morpeth coming away with the points after two late goals had sealed the victory.

On a breezy afternoon, both teams took a while to settle.

Chances were few and far between but the home team were slightly on top and Morpeth were grateful to Jack Tordoff and Joseph Laux for some timely interceptions at the back.

Jonny Wilson worked very hard in midfield for Morpeth and James Brown created a couple of opportunities for himself after good work on both occasions.

A good run and cross by Marc Tully almost led to a goal before Morpeth went ahead. Jack Hunter, who was excellent throughout the match, headed on for Craig Robertson to sprint ahead of Hexham’s defence to shoot past the goalkeeper.

Morpeth had further chances to score but it was Hexham who scored next. A free-kick into the penalty area caused some confusion and the ball was headed over Phil Biggs, deputising in goal, to put Hexham on level terms.

Both sides had chances to score early in the second half before Hunter got his reward by scoring an excellent goal following good work by Luke Rolt.

Jack Philips then had a good free-kick saved by the goalkeeper.

However, Hexham came back strongly and Biggs made a superb diving save to keep Morpeth ahead.

Hexham were on top at this stage and missed a couple of opportunities to level before Morpeth went further ahead in the last five minutes.

The goal came from a brilliant free-kick by Tordoff, which was headed in strongly by Alex Vescio.

A further goal, well taken by Luke Rolt, secured the win for the visitors and keeps Morpeth in third place.

Squad: Biggs, Chambers, Fawcett, Vescio, Laux, Tordoff, Wilson, Robertson, Brown, Tully, Rolt, Hunter, Larby, Philips.
