League kicks off with a goal-fest

Morpeth Sunday League round-up

Division One

There were goals galore to kick off this season’s Morpeth Sunday League.

Bedlington Barrington Arms led the way, thrashed defending champions Pegswood at home 10-1.

On target for The Monkey were Chris Dobey (two) Craig Stafford (two) Shaun Cowell, Ross Dixon, Craig McFadyen, David Scott, Ryan Stafford and Dylan Williamson.

Pegswood’s sole reply was scored by Ashley McAlpine.

Amble Tavern got their campaign off to a strong start as they defeated the Wharton Arms 6-0, with Sean Taylor helping himself to four goals.

Amble’s other efforts were scored by Matty Graham and Ross Gair.

Ashington RAOB also got off to a winning start as they overcame Stobswood 2-0 thanks to strikes by Adam Ryder & Lenny Lansbury.

Both of the division’s newly-promoted clubs faced each other and it was Riverside Lodge who came away with the spoils as they ran out 3-0 winners over Bomarsund.Scoring for Riverside were Dan Thompson, Karl Sayers and Dean Fitch.

Division Two

Amble Blue Bell hammered Village Inn Longframlington 8-0. Thomas Stones got five of the goals, Peter Murray got a brace and the rout was completed by Andy Taylor.

HMP Northumberland also recorded an 8-0 victory against Alnmouth Argyle thanks to hat-tricks by Jason Singh and John Smylie, a solitary goal by Kieran Petre and an own-goal.

New club Ashington Conchie made an ideal start as they defeated Amble Dock Hotel 7-2. Scoring for the Conchie were Lee Sparrow, Michael Freath, Phil Key, Tony Cook and Kevin Orkney (three).

The division’s other new club, however, weren’t so successful as Morpeth Shambles lost to The Elephant 4-0. East Chevington edged out North End Trap 2-1. Scoring for East Chevington were Davey Shepherd and Jordan Giles., North End’s reply was scored by Kevin Bell.
