Morpeth Town 5 Brandon United 2 Ebac Northern League, Division Two

AFTER passing a pitch inspection in the afternoon, the hard work of the Morpeth Town ground staff was rewarded with a five-star performance from the Highway Men.

The opening goal of the game came on 11 minutes when the home side forced a corner on the right. Anderson’s dead-ball kick was flicked on by Chilton and Dines forced the ball home from close range.

Morpeth extended their lead on 38 minutes from another set-piece. Anderson’s accurate cross was converted by Chilton.

As the half came to a close, Brandon gained a corner on the right and Wilson scored to make it 2-1.

Morpeth started the second half on the offensive and after 48 minutes, Chilton rose above Wilkinson to head home a deep cross from Benjamin.

Chilton then had a chance to get his hat-trick when Dines was upended by Wilkinson in the box. But the keeper made amends by making a fantastic spot-kick save.

Morpeth’s leading scorer was not to be denied, though, as three minutes later, he latched onto Andrews’ throughball to score with a cool finish (4-1).

Hendrix was able to pull one back for Brandon but Hutchinson restored Town’s three-goal cushion when he curled the ball home.

Morpeth’s momentum came to a halt with a 0-3 defeat to Seaham Red Star on Monday night.
