Brandon United 1 Morpeth Town 4 Ebac Northern League, Division Two
MORPETH secured promotion to Division One with a win last night and some help from Seaham Red Star.
The visitors took care of their business by defeating Brandon United 4-1 and soon after the final whistle, the celebrations began when they heard that Jarrow Roofing had drawn 3-3 with Seaham.
This meant both clubs finished on 85 points, but Town had a better goal difference (+57 to +54) to take the third and final promotion place in Division Two.
The Highway Men took the lead last night after 25 minutes when Anderson latched onto a long ball by Dunn and delivered a clinical finish.
Brandon equalised 15 minutes later when poor marking allowed Davidson a free header from a corner, but Morpeth went 2-1 ahead on the stroke of half time. Anderson threaded the ball through to Chilton and he rolled it into the net.
McAlpine curled a free kick over the wall into the goal on 75 minutes to give Town a two-goal cushion and soon afterwards it was 4-1 when Anderson forced the ball home from close range.
After finishing fourth last season, the squad were even more delighted to get the promotion spot this season and can look forward to derbies with Ashington and Bedlington in 2013/14.
