MORPETH suffered a home defeat but they put in an improved performance compared to recent matches.

On a hard pitch, Morpeth give home debuts to Tshitenda, Burn, Briggs, Butters and Chan in a much-changed team.

In an evenly contested first 15 minutes both sides had their chances, then on 16 minutes the Craik Park side took the lead through Daniel Carr when his header came back off the bar, hit the keeper and rolled in.

The action continued at either end and more goals looked likely. Unfortunately for Morpeth, Northallerton were given a great opportunity to equalise when Bulmer won a disputed penalty following a challenge by captain Michael Burn.

Aaron Ramsbottom cooly slotted home from the spot to make it 1-1.

The visitors took the lead ten minutes into the second half when slack marking on the post by Tshitenda allowed Darren Mowbray to ghost in and head home.

Substitutes Fremlin, Cowell and McAlpine all made a positive impact as Morpeth looked to get on level terms.

They peppered the visitors’ goal with shots from all angles and it took a spectacular double save from Northallerton keeper Kell to keep the hosts out.

He also made a good save with his legs, but was then grateful to fortunately spoon a low skidding free kick behind for a corner.

The away side hit Morpeth on the counter attack a few times, but striker Mitchell could not take the chances that came his way to make it 3-1.

In injury time, an offside flag ended a promising Morpeth attack. Despite the result there were plenty of positives for the management of Benjamin and Appleby to take from the game.

With the club looking to change its fortunes, two more players – Dale Johnson and Damien Hanstock – have been signed.

Morpeth Town are away to Darlington Railway Athletic on Saturday, then they take on Washington at home on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.30pm). From this match all kids are allowed in free.

Morpeth would like to invite local schools to provide ball boys and girls at home matches. Any interested schools should contact Lawrence Appleby, Assistant Manager, on 07526 283824.

The club is in the process of starting a reserve team and youth side for next season. Anyone interested in the manager’s position or to join as players should contact Mr Appleby on the above number.
