Morpeth SC U17s 2 Forest Hall U17s 0
LEAGUE leaders Forest Hall were the opposition for this week’s match at Storey Park.
Unbeaten in all 13 games so far, the visitors finally met their match and were beaten by a Morpeth team that was superior in every way.
Morpeth’s players can be very proud of themselves and deserve great credit for the manner in which they conducted themselves in extremely difficult circumstances towards the end of the match.
The game started fairly quietly, with few chances at either end.
Once again, the defence was solid, with Joesph Laux and Phil Biggs very strong in the middle and Tom Larby and Adam Fawcett doing very well at full-back.
Jonny Wilson and James Brown covered a lot of ground in the centre of midfield and produced good passes for other midfielders and forwards to take the game to the visitors.
Forest Hall were dangerous on the break and Morpeth had to defend strongly on a couple of occasions.
After that, the home team looked the better side and they got their reward when Brown did well on the left side of midfield, eventually producing a cross that was expertly turned in by Luke Rolt (1-0).
Jack Philips then went close with a free-kick before the referee blew for half-time.
After the break, Morpeth continued to look the better team and it was no surprise when Rolt added a second (2-0).
He almost scored again from a long range shot and Morpeth continued to play very good and effective football.
It all became too much for the visitors in the final 15 minutes, with one player sent off and three more booked for off-the-ball incidents.
Morpeth’s players rose above these tactics and came out worthy winners, with the added bonus of being able to welcome back Josh Chambers for the first time in more than a year after two very serious knee injuries.
Morpeth team: Larby, Biggs, Laux, Fawcett, Philips, Wilson, Robertson, Brown, Tully, Rolt, Hunter, Nelson, Chambers.
