Morpeth Sunday League round-up (March 18)


AMBLE Pier 81 climbed to the top of the table with a 6-0 win over Bomarsund Social Club.

The win takes them two points clear at the top, with games in hand on the teams behind them.

Sean Taylor scored a hat-trick, Josh Hay a brace and Darren Riddell rounded off the scoring.

Reigning champions Pegswood Ex-Services suffered a further setback in the defence of their title as they lost 3-0 at home to Stakeford Half Moon.

Stobswood Welfare lifted themselves off bottom spot by virtue of goal difference with a good 5-1 win at Woodhorn Lane.

Chris Moffatt scored for the Lane, but goals from Stefan Tweddle (two), Robert Baker, Anthony Wade and Calvin Flanighan earned the Welfare an important three points.

Red Row Brick Club carried forward their recent good run with a 2-1 win at Bedlington Barrington Arms.

They had Sean Palmer and Adam Shanks to thank for their goals, while Sean Cowell netted for Barrington Arms.


VILLAGE Inn, Longframlington, remain top of the second division following a 3-2 success at Felton.

Daniel Thompson (two) and Jackie Angus grabbed the goals which won the game.

Morpeth Chantry moved into second behind Village Inn with a 3-1 win at Newbiggin Bankhouse.

North End Trap won 6-2 at East Chevington. A Peter Godfrey double counted for East Chevington, but Josh Baston (two), Stuart Oman (two), Rob Morton and Gavin Keen won it for the Trap.

Blackthorn Rovers and Alnmouth Argyle had to settle for a point apiece after their encounter ended 2-2. Dan Webb and Andrew Timson scored for Rovers, with Liam Roper and Ross McKenley replying for Argyle.
