Amble Tavern took on The Wharton Arms in the Lewin Cup semi-final second leg, with the tie finely poised at 1-1 from the first leg.

The Tavern progressed with a narrow 2-1 victory on the day and an overall 3-2 victory. On target for The Tavern were Lee Harker and Nathan Buddle and The Wharton goal was scored by Adam Beecroft.

Riverside Lodge and Stobswood played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw in the only Division One game of the day. The Riverside goals were scored by Darren Percy and Jamie Thompson, with Stobswood’s strikes coming from Mark Sinclair and Robert Baker.

The Elephant picked up a 4-0 win over Alnmouth Argyle thanks to the goalscorers Azz Wright (two), Michael Carr and Carl Brydon. Morpeth Shambles recorded a 3-0 win over Amble Blue Bell.

Ashington RAOB were knocked out in the semi-finals of the NFA County Cup, losing 2-0 to a well-organised Cullercoats team.

Cullercoats took the lead within the first 10 minutes of the match after an Ashington defender put the ball into his own net and the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

In the second half the ‘Buffs’ tried their best to grab an equaliser, but were denied any clear-cut openings by a well-drilled back four.

Their closest effort was a long-range strike from Damon Mullen, which was tipped round the post.

With the last kick of the game, Cullercoats put the tie to bed as a crisp counter-attacking move resulted in their forward curling the ball into the top corner from inside the box, giving goalkeeper Sean McCaffrey no chance.
