Morpeth Town look to carry momentum into FA Vase competition

Morpeth Town start their FA Vase campaign with a home tie against North West Counties League side Padiham FC on Saturday at Craik Park.

The Highwaymen have had a strong start to the season and will be looking to carry the momentum of Monday’s Ebac Northern League victory away to leaders Shildon.

Morpeth are hoping for a bumper crowd as they enter the prestigious competition at the first qualifying round stage.

Padiham will provide a tough test for Nick Gray’s side, recently relegated from the Northern Premier League division one. They currently sit tenth in the table with seven points from five games.

Their form in cup competitions has been much better as they are still in the FA Cup after wins over Northern League division two side Whickham and fellow NWCFL side Silsden.

Morpeth will be looking to add to the success the Northern League has had in the FA Vase in recent years.

Last season North Shields picked up the famous trophy, while Spennymoor Town, Dunston UTS and Whitley Bay have won it in the last seven years, Bay winning it three times in a row.

Gates open at 2pm and the game will be played to a finish on the day.

Ticket prices are £6 for adults and £3 for concessions.
