Kevin Carr was the Heaton Stannington hero with the only goal at Blyth Town yesterday.
Striker Carr pounced to put the loose ball into the back of the net during a first-half goalmouth scramble, which took the black and whites to within a point of back-to-back titles – and finally broke Town’s impressive 27-game unbeaten record.
Dave King’s back-post header for Amble United was cancelled out by Darren Walsh’s strike for Killingworth Sporting. Rikki Hume slipped in from a narrow angle to restore United’s lead but Michael Bowman levelled again from the penalty spot. Sean Taylor hit the winner for the Seasiders in the 85th minute.
Whitley Bay A’s Ryan Keltie also hit a late goal at Harraby United, heading an equaliser from an 87th minute corner. The Seahorses led through a deflected Josh Day shot that went in off defender Ashley Coombe’s head, but the Cumbrians turned things around with a Lee Otway drive and Peter Ferris tap-in before Keltie struck.
Rikki James struck twice to put Carlisle City in charge against Ashington Colliers but two in quick succession just before the break from Joe Moscrop, with a long-range drive, and a Michael Hogg header made it all-square.
Alex benjamin’s header for Seaton Delaval was cancelled out by a penalty from Wallsend Town’s Gav Jones.
The title race heated up as Wallington slipped up at home to Cramlington Town. David Mason, Mark Waite and Paul Joicse netted for the visitors, with Justin Millican and Josh Gilmartin scoring for the Greens.
Red House Farm’s Zak Brogden struck twice in the final 10 minutes as they kept their title hopes alive with a win over Morpeth Town A, who netted through Anthony Coxon. Martin Soulsby and Lee Brady got the others for Farm, with Town keeper David Hanson having a superb game between the sticks.
Joe Bell and John Dewhurst both struck twice for Gateshead Redheugh as they hit seven at Forest Hall. Kev Hay, Ryan Davenport and Mark Innes got the others, with Alex Gomez and Dieu Lomana replying.
Daniel Sneap hit a hat-trick as Cullercoats gave themselves hope of beating the drop with a surprise 5-2 win over in-form Bedlington Terriers Reserves. Jonathon Ranson and Sean Smith got the others.
Willington Quay Saints signed off with a win over Hexham, John Foggett hitting the only goal from the penalty-spot, while Newcastle Uni’s Jake Salisbury and Johnny Sexton netted as they beat Ponteland United 2-1.
Cameron Wilson (two) and Mark Worral scored for Northbank in their 3-1 success against Heddon and Bohemians had Travis Couling, Alex Kennedy, Paul Dixon and Patrick O’Donaghie on target at Newcastle Chemfica, who netted through Ian Hutchinson and Tito Davison.
Goals from Tom Cox, Scott Jasper, Matty Donkin and Anthony Keith sparked the North Shields Athletic championship party.
Promotion challengers Birtley Saint Joseph’s netted through James Bowman but they couldn’t put a dampener on Athletic’s celebrations.
New Fordley had Lee Moffet (two) and Dan Young on target but still slipped to defeat at Alnwick Town Reserves, who fired in from Stephen Hutchins (two), James Jackson and Ross Moore.
Jeff Fuller and Billy Olechnowicz scored for Blyth Isabella as they beat Alston and Chrissy Robinson, Carl Kirkpatrick, Robert Jefferson and Shaun Sager crashed in for Grainger Park in a seven-goal thriller at High Howdon, who replied through Nicky Whitelaw, who plundered a hat-trick.
Dave Hewitt and Chris Baker scored in Seaton Burn’s win at Newcastle Benfield Reserves, who had Stephen Thompson on target, while Louis Ellis netted for Swalwell against Wooler, who had James Scott fire home.
It also ended 1-1 at Wallsend Boys Club, who had Scott Lowery celebrating, with Michael Jordan crashing in for visitors Cramlington United.
