Morpeth Town travelled to Scotland at weekend to play their first pre-season friendlies in preparation for the 2015-16 campaign.
On Friday night Dalbeattie Star of The Sun Lowland League were the hosts.
Morpeth fell behind to a long range effort early in the first half but they quickly got into their side, and playing some fast, fluid, attacking football they eventually ran out 4-1 victors.
Then on Saturday the Highway Men travelled to the Lochinch Sports complex in Glasgow to play Scottish First Division side Stranraer.
The hosts started brightly and took the lead on 15 minutes when they scored with a speculative lob from 25 yards out after Karl Dryden had punched clear.
They quickly doubled their lead with an exquisite chip.
Morpeth regained their composure and started to take the game to their opponents before they pulled a goal back.
The Highway Men broke down the left and Ben Sayer cut inside before unleashing a fierce shot across the home goalkeeper into the net to reduce the arrears.
Morpeth were at this stage of the contest starting to control play and Daniel Taggart thought he had equalised with a powerful diving header, but his effort was ruled out by a tight offside decision.
With both sides playing neat, attacking football, Stranraer increased their lead with a glancing header.
The Highway Men’s response was immediate as Steven Anderson scored to with a close range finish to make the half-time score 3-2.
After the break the hosts increased their lead with a shot from distance and then made it 5-2 with a contentious penalty.
Morpeth made the final score 5-3 when Sean Taylor converted a Shaun Bell cross.
Both games were good work outs for the Highway Men against opponents who are well into their pre-season preparations.
The Highway Men’s next fixture is away to Whitley Bay A at Annitsford Welfare on Saturday (July 19), kick-off 2pm
Morpeth are then away to Walker Central on Tuesday, July 21, kick-off 7pm, and Heaton Stannington on Friday, July 24, kick-off 7.30pm.
