Pont has Yellows in peril

Prudhoe YC Yellows U13 1

Ponteland United Predators U13 7

PONTELAND Predators secured their first win of the season, in an away game, at Prudhoe Yellows.

Playing with the strong breeze, Prudhoe looked the more likely to score in the first 15 minutes, as they tested Elliott Blain with a good variety of efforts.

Elliott was again in top form, however, and his performance spurred the team on.

When Ryan Gerrard came on as sub, on 15 minutes, he made an immediate impact as he gathered the ball on the edge of the Prudhoe box, drove through the defence and picked his spot in the bottom corner.

He became provider 10 minutes later when he slotted a lovely pass to Charlie Falcus, who manoeuvred the ball onto his left foot and fired his shot wide of the diving keeper.

The Predator’s third goal came soon into the second half when Ryan charged down the left, fended off two challenges and sent over a low cross for Charlie to convert.

Ryan added his second following a great ball from Lewis Dixon. Lewis’s pass tested the keeper’s bravery, as Ryan closed him down and got slightly lucky as the ball bounced favourably for him to tap it home.

Prudhoe were threatening Ponteland’s defence from time to time and they deservedly got a penalty after Josh Silipo handled in the box.

The spot-kick was expertly taken and gave Prudhoe a boost.

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed, however, as Ryan completed his hat-trick on 45 minutes with a superb curler into the far corner.

The Predators finished the game strongly and added two headed goals before the end.

Josh Beswick found the net from a lofted Tim Bryce cross and then Tom Reeman ducked low to head in Rowan Hodgson’s corner, just before the end.

Man-of the-match: Elliott Blain, for keeping Pont in the game, during the first half.
