IN a tight affair, Northumberland lost out to Cheshire in a penalty shoot-out after the teams couldn’t be separated following 110 minutes of entertaining football.
Scott McCarthy opened the scoring for Northumberland in the first half after out-pacing the Cheshire defence and cutting inside to fire home.
Cheshire equalised midway through the second-half following a good header from a left-wing cross, with the Northumberland defence caught flat-footed.
Northumberland had two great chances to win the game in the final five minutes of normal time, but failed to convert, with one great block on the line from a Cheshire defender.
Extra time brought no further chances and it was Cheshire who came out victors in the penalty shoot-out with their goalkeeper saving two spot kicks.
