Morpeth Sunday League round-up
ALL of the Division One teams were in action this week in two-legged first round Lewin Cup ties as the competition has been revamped for this season.
Amble Tavern edged out Riverside Lodge 2-1 with goals from Josh Hay and Brad Wake.
The Riverside response was scored by Darren Percy.
Stobswood also ran out winners by the same scoreline over Bedlington Barrington Arms thanks to efforts by Robert Baker and Gary McDonald. The Barrington’s goal was scored by Dylan Williamson.
In the day’s final tie, Wharton Arms thrashed Bomarsund 7-1, with the goalscorers as follows: Joe Moscrop (two), Josie Bolam (two), Andy Carr, Phil Gowens and Jamie Chapman. Bomarsund’s consolation was scored by Liam Brown.
The second division’s Reevely Cup has also been changed to two legs with the competition also including two preliminary ties to establish passage into the first round.
Amble Blue Bell defeated Alnmouth Argyle 4-1 thanks to a brace from Thomas Stones and efforts from Peter Murray and David Stobbart.
Morpeth Shambles overcame North End Trap 5-1 in the second preliminary round game.
In the first round, East Chevington won 4-1 against Ashington Conchie.
On target for East Chevington were Phil Aries, Jordan Giles and the scoring was rounded off with a brace from Sean Palmer. The Conchie’s goal was scored by Damien Saword.
The Elephant FC comfortably won against Village Inn Longframlington 11-1, with Mark Taylor scoring seven of their goals.
Michael Carr notched a double and Joe Henderson and Daniel Webb both scored one each. Village Inn’s consolation came courtesy of Stuart Hay.
HMP Northumberland hammered Amble Dock Hotel 10-1 thanks to a six-goal salvo from Billy Cavens, a hat-trick from Ryan McArdle and solitary strike from Lee Hammond. The Amble Dock goal was scored by Carl Taylor.
