Team effort bags win

Bedlington CSC U8s 0 Morpeth Leopards U8s 1

MORPETH were hoping to finish their second game of the weekend with a victory.

Karun and Caelan were kept busy in defence in snowy conditions. Joe T worked well and got some excellent crosses in, but the Bedlington defence was tight.

Jacob and Joe T worked tirelessly in midfield and, although Bedlington broke through the Leopards’ defence, Louie cleared. Bedlington pressed on and more excellent defending, this time by Daniel and Jacob, and a brave save by Joe L kept the score at 0-0.

The Leopards tried to attack and Joe L’s long kick found Louie, but he just couldn’t convert to a goal. Joseph made some excellent clearances and found Joe T and Louie, but no matter how hard they tried they just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.

Louie took a long throw and found Joe T, from which they won a well-taken corner but the Bedlington defence stayed strong. Josh, Joe, Jacob and Louie looked lively and kept the pressure on an excellent Bedlington defence.

The play swapped ends into the Morpeth goal-mouth and Joe L made an excellent save following a dangerous goal-mouth scramble.

The second quarter ended goalless.

Both teams came out looking determined and Jack made a great run, but was closed down again by the Bedlington defence.

Josh and Joe T kept the pressure on and were determined to keep the play in the opposition’s half.

Josh was quick to take a Leopards corner and scored an amazing goal directly from it. The Leopards broke through again and Louie and Joe T made some excellent runs, but were both brought down.

Determined to keep the pressure on, Joe passed to Josh, who got the ball to Louie, but it was just too far for Louie to pose a threat. The play was very even from both sides and Karun and Joseph had to stay strong under pressure. The quarter ended 1-0 to Morpeth.

In a tense final quarter, the Leopards were still not in the clear.

Daniel and Jacob got stuck in from the start, trying to get the ball into the opposition half and keep the pressure on a strong Bedlington side. They broke again and only some excellent clearances from Joseph, Josh and Daniel kept the Leopards in the lead.

The whole team tried to press forward and break down the Bedlington defencebut nothing was getting through.

At the end of the final quarter, the Leopards won three corners, but no matter how hard Jacob, Josh and Jack tried, they just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.

However, Morpeth held on for the win.
