Town build on cup win

Morpeth Town 2 Whitley Bay 0 Ebac Northern League, Division One

THROUGH to the fourth round of the FA Vase on Saturday, January 18, when the Highway Men will face Midland Football Alliance side Westfields at Craik Park, Morpeth Town continued their recent good run of form with a comprehensive victory over four-time FA Vase winners Whitley Bay, writes David McMeekan.

Dominating for long periods, the Highway Men were constantly thwarted by the heroics of Whitley keeper Harley, who turned in a man-of-the-match performance, and the frame of the goal, which the Morpeth forwards struck three times.

Fortunate to still be on level terms at half-time, Whitley Bay finally conceded on 55 minutes when Hiftle sent a pin-point cross into the penalty area.

It was met by Taylor who gave Harley no chance with a tremendous effort from just inside the penalty area.

Harley again denied Morpeth a second goal with fine saves from efforts by Forster and Anderson, but Chilton was able to secure all three points with a clinical header from an Anderson cross.

Morpeth Town: Mundy, Robinson, Hiftle, Hall (Fry), Buchanan, Jewels, Taylor, Bell, Anderson (Keenan), Chilton, Forster (Lancaster).

Techflow Qatar man-of-the-match: Sean Taylor.

Town’s next match is away at Team Northumbria on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, in Northern League Divsion One.
