Town pegged back after great start

Morpeth Town 2 Jarrow Roofing 2 Ebac Northern League, Division One

Morpeth were involved in an entertaining encounter on Saturday, but they had to settle for a point after losing a two-goal lead.

Third-placed Jarrow Roofing were the visitors to Craik Park. On a sticky but playable surface, The Highway Men were soon into their stride as they looked to emulate their excellent victory at Jarrow early in the season.

After 15 minutes, the hosts took the lead when the industrious Jordan Fry released overlapping full-back James Novak down the left and his cross was fired home by Sean Taylor.

Morpeth’s confident one-touch football was further rewarded 10 minutes from half-time.

Centre-back Michael Hall joined a promising attack and his cross-shot cannoned back off the post into the path of Michael Chilton, who tapped home from five yards out.

As the half came to a close, Jarrow broke out of defence quickly and the ball was played across the Morpeth penalty area to Lewis Teasdale, who took a touch before firing past Karl Dryden in the Morpeth goal.

The visitors equalised 25 minutes from time when Malky Morien found space for himself on the left and scored from a narrow angle.

Town pressed hard for the winner, but they were denied by some dogged defending.

Morpeth line-up: Dryden, Henderson, Novak, Sayer, Hall, Hiftle, Taylor, Graydon (Forster), Taggert (Anderson), Chilton, Fry (Bell). Techflow Group Qatar man-of-the-match: Ben Sayer.

The Highway Men are away to Sunderland RCA on Saturday and their next home fixture is against league leaders West Auckland Town on Saturday, January 3 (both 3pm kick-off).
