Morpeth will play Blyth Spartans at St James’ Park in the final of the The Techflow Group Northumberland Senior Cup after putting in a fantastic performance on Tuesday night.

Town were backed by a large vociferous following at Whitley Park and after the home side missed a good chance when Holmes blasted the ball over the crossbar, they took the lead when Sean Taylor’s 22-yard cross shot found the bottom left corner.

Heardman beat the offside trap and chipped Harrison to equalise, but the Highway Men regained the lead early in the second half when Keith Graydon played in Daniel Taggert, who beat Alnwick at his near post.

And Morpeth sealed their final place when a Taylor cross was diverted into his own net by Newcastle defender Lewis Suddick.

Three well-worked goals gave The Highway Men a comfortable victory over The Two Blues on Saturday.

Bishops lost the game in the first 20 minutes when Shaun Bell and Sean Taylor scored for Morpeth.

Town could have gone further behind but keeper Scott Pocklington kept the away side in the game, with a series of excellent saves to deny Michael Chilton, Sean Taylor and Daniel Taggert.

Morpeth had two goals chalked off by tight offside decisions and both Shaun Bell and Stephen Forster hit the crossbar as The Highway Men turned in an impressive display of attacking football.

Adam Sakr hit the bar for the visitors early in the second half, but it was all over when Taggert scored the third. He converted a Taylor cross.

Andy Johnson scored Bishops’ consolation with a header in stoppage time.

Morpeth manager Nick Gray said: “It was a great team performance with only two negatives. We should have scored at least six and not conceded a last minute goal.”

Morpeth Town line-up: Harrison, Hiftle, Novak, Sayer (Fry), Grieve, Hall, Taylor, Graydon, Taggert (Forster), Chilton (Anderson), Bell.
