Town’s Celtic test

Morpeth continued their preparations for the new season with two friendly fixtures in two days.

On Friday evening, a team from Scottish Premier League champions Celtic provided the opposition at Craik Park.

The visitors included several players with first team experience and they showed their quality in a 5-0 victory, but Nick Gray’s young side acquitted themselves very well against their professional opponents.

The Highway Men then made the journey to Dudley to face Northern Alliance side Shankhouse on Saturday.

Wing back Mark Lancaster opened the scoring for Town just before half time and early in the second half, centre back David Hiftle doubled the lead with a fine strike. Sean Taylor made it 3-0 and last year’s top scorer Michael Chilton added a brace to put Morpeth 5-0 up before Shankhouse scored a late consolation.

Morpeth’s next warm-up game is away at Walker Central this Saturday.
