Two wins in a row for young footballers

Ashington Colliers U8s 1 Morpeth SC Leopards U8s 3

THE Leopards made a good start and were passing well, but the Colliers broke on the counter attack and Joe just couldn’t stop the ball going in the back of the net.

Morpeth didn’t let this get them down and Joe T and Louie looked lively and had a couple of shots at goal, but their goalkeeper pulled off some great saves. Joseph and Karun played well in defence and made some great clearances.

Caelan and Daniel tried their best to get the ball up to Louie and Joe T, but the Colliers’ defence closed things down well. The Colliers kept the pressure on and Joe pulled off a couple of good saves.

The Leopards came out fighting in the second quarter and Louie made a couple of good runs but was still denied a goal by some decent goalkeeping. Karun was great in defence and cleared a ball straight to Louie who passed three players and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Louie made another good run, but again the goalkeeper made a great save. The Leopards kept the pressure on and dominated play. Jacob got stuck in and got a great ball through to Jack who made a great run, but was closed down by the Colliers’ defence.

Jacob got some great balls through and Josh had a couple of shots, but again they just couldn’t convert to goals. Joseph and Karun were rock solid in defence and Joe showed great skill in goal and kept the score at 1-1.

The Leopards started the third quarter well, with Joe T and Josh making some lovely passes. Jacob had a great strike which went just wide of the goal.

Josh got an excellent pass through to Joe T, whose shot also went just wide. Joe T then made a great run and passed to Jacob who’s shot was wide again.

The visitors kept the pressure on and Karun made a great pass to Joe T, whose shot was saved but Josh picked up the rebound and passed it to Joe T who scored.

Daniel and Jacob kept the pressure on and Jacob looked desperate to score. Josh and Joe both had shots saved, but then Daniel made a great run and an amazing strike ended up in the back of the net as the quarter ended 1-3.

Morpeth came out full of confidence and Josh had a shot which was saved. The Colliers broke and got a corner, but some great work by Joseph and Joe prevented them scoring.

Jack and Daniel made some great runs, but the Colliers’ defence kept closing them down. The Colliers’ made a great run and put pressure on the Leopards’ defence, but Joe pulled off a great save. Caelan closed their chances down and had a couple of good strikes to try to get the ball up the field.

Joe’s goal-kick found Louie who made a great run and passed to Josh but their keeper pulled off another good save as the match ended 1-3.

THE home side started strongly with some good balls won by Jack and Josh. Louie made a good run and Joe T put a couple of good passes in. Josh had the only real shot in this quarter, but it just went wide and it ended 0-0.

The second quarter didn’t start as well as the Leopards were playing into the wind. Daniel and Joe T showed some excellent skill and Caelan put in some important tackles.

Daniel put in a good cross to Louie who headed it, but it couldn’t find the net. Joseph then cleared a Blyth shot on goal by hitting it off his own post.

Josh and Daniel made good strides towards goal at the start of the third quarter, and Jacob showed good strength. After a good run down the pitch by Jack, Josh got the ball and dribbled past three or four players and put it into the net.

Morpeth were strong in the final quarter and Joe put in some good balls. Josh again took control and ran from the last third of the pitch and dribbled it into the net for 2-0 and after getting a pass from Daniel, he scored his hat-trick, making the final score 3-0.
