Frustration as sin bin period proves costly

Ponteland 13 Guisborough 25 Durham and Northumberland, Division One

A YELLOW card was the turning point as Pont lost from a winning position.

Despite a decent start, the home side fell behind when a Guisborough player peeled off a scrum and went on an excellent run to score.

But Ponteland continued to press and after a strong line-out drive, Mark Kelly broke away to touch down.

Michael Searle kicked over a drop-goal just before half-time to make it 8-5 at the break and 20 minutes into the second half, the ball was moved well through various pairs of hands and Chris Searle showed good speed to score an unconverted try.

The visitors were penalised a few times for verbals, but no yellow card was shown, however, Ponteland’s Craig Robinson was sent to the sin bin for knocking the ball down.

Guisborough took advantage by scoring three tries and as the hosts attacked in the final stages, an interception led to a final try.
