Morpeth RFC U14s 59 Novos RFC U14s 7
The game, the final one of the season for the U14 side, was played in terrible conditions, which made handling the ball especially difficult against a team Morpeth had not beaten in their last last three meetings.
The first Morpeth try came after 12 minutes of excellent Novos defence when, after some good driving play by the forwards, winger Josh Parker darted over the line in the corner after shrugging off two Novos tackles to score. The conversion was slotted over by Elliott Clark who was excellent from the kicking tee throughout.
Six minutes later, scrum-half Ben Gascoigne burrowed over from short range to make the score 13-0.
Novos responded with a great solo effort from their pacy winger who raced along the touchline to score a converted try.
Morpeth hit back within minutes with Clark’s clever kick in behind the Novos defence allowing flourishing Morpeth winger Jack Andrews to touch down on the right. Clark converted from a difficult angle to make the score 20-7.
The half finished as it had started with number 8 Clark getting over the line after holding off several defenders to score close to the posts to make it 27-7 at half-time.
In the second half, against the wind, the Morpeth pack delivered enough quick ball to get their dangerous back-line into the game and fly-half and man-of-the-match Josh Wilson, who handled and distributed the ball superbly, put in bustling centre Dean Carling after crashing through the midfield.
This was followed up with a second try for Gascoigne to make it 41-5. Full-back Joe Dowd was next on the scoresheet, showing a clean pair of heels to the opposition to score under the posts followed by Gascoigne completing his hat-trick of tries after spotting a gap around the fringes of a ruck for a final score of 59-7 and just reward for a team that played well throughout the season, winning seven matches.
