Morpeth Ladies 62 Sheffield Ladies 0 RFUW North Two
MORPETH quickly got over their shock defeat to Darlington Ladies last weekend with an emphatic win against Sheffield on Sunday.
From the first scrum the home forwards were keen to atone for the mistakes of the week before, turning over three of the first four scrums. Then, following some strong rucking from the forwards, team captain Kate Hall was able to find the gap in the defence and score under the posts. Rachael Best duly converted for the additional two points.
It wasn’t long before Morpeth scored another converted try when quick hands through the backs gave outside centre Emily Johnson a decent score.
Three more tries were added before half-time, two by McPherson and one from Elizabeth Severs on the opposite wing, making the half-time tally 31-0 to Morpeth.
The hosts kept the pressure up in the second half and Diane Purvis scored a try after only four minutes of the restart.
Cheryl McAlpine, Kirsty Marshall, Severs and Best also touched down in the second period to round-off a comprehensive win, which confirmed second place in the league.
