Local sides challenge for the top
Morpeth 1sts beat Annfield Plain by 78 runs on Saturday to maintain third place in Division 1 of the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League.
Paul Johnston topped the scorecard with 97 before he was run out, and with John Windows adding 65 they managed to put on a useful 291-6 in their 50 overs.
Sam Stephenson then hit an unbeaten century (117), and there was a knock of 54 from Rea Mokgoro as the home side replied with 213-9 in their innings.Jack Concannon took 4-39.
In Division 2, Ponteland 1sts had a seven wicket away win over Cowgate 1sts which keeps them in fourth place in the table. The home side batted first and put on 154 all out with 45 from Jaswinder Singh and 43 from Usman Maroof.
Ashley Parker took 4-14 for Pont, who in reply chased it down in 25 overs at 155-3 with Ban O’Brien on 67 and Stuart Taylor on 47.
Blagdon 1sts won by ten wickets at home to Corbridge 1sts in Division 3, putting them just two points behind leaders Warkworth.
Corbridge were all out for 94 with Nathan Shoesmith on 38, Paul Johnson taking 4-16.
Tom Lakey was 61 not out and Mark Foster 20 not out as Blagdon ran it down in 18 overs.
Stobswood 1sts won by 70 runs at home against Allendale 1sts in Division 4 and they remain second in the table.
A knock of 53 not out from Esmond Black helped Stobs post 183-6 in their innings, Tim Raglan claiming three of the wickets.
Allendale were all out for 113 in 32 overs with jasper Grey their top scorer on 26, with two wickets each for Adam Cook, Ian Watson and Paul Patterson.
Kirkley 1sts were at home to Warenford in Division 5 and they won by 36 runs.
Knocks of 45 from opener Christian Rowe and 41 from Scott gardner saw Kirkley 198 all out at the end of their innings, with Michael Thompson taking 4-24 and Graham Rogerson 3-60.
Brian Thompson carried his bat and was 54 not out for Waren, whilst Michael Thompson hit 46, but at the end of their 40 overs they came up short at 162-6 with Andrew Horner claiming 3-21.
